About Australasian Railway Association
Geographic reach: Australia, New Zealand, International rail-industry audience
The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) is the peak industry association representing the rail sector across Australia and New Zealand. Based in Canberra, it connects rail operators, infrastructure owners, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, governments, researchers and professional services firms, giving members a collective voice on policy, investment, safety, skills and the long-term development of rail.
Its work combines advocacy and industry representation with practical member services, professional development, workforce initiatives, networking and market intelligence. The association’s portfolio extends beyond conferences: it supports committees and networking groups, delivers learning and workforce-development programs, and convenes industry awards, regional networking functions, specialist lunches and other sector events.
Its principal exhibition and conference brand is AusRAIL, described by the ARA as the largest rail-industry conference in the Southern Hemisphere. AusRAIL brings together decision-makers and technical experts from Australia, New Zealand and international markets, with an exhibition, conference sessions, sponsorship opportunities and structured networking.
AusRAIL PLUS is the larger alternating-year edition, combining an expanded exhibition and conference with major social functions; the 2025 edition was scheduled for Melbourne from 25–28 November. For exhibitors, the ARA offers access to a concentrated rail-industry audience and opportunities to demonstrate technology, equipment and services to potential customers and partners.
For visitors, its events provide sector insight, professional connections and exposure to current rail projects and solutions. The ARA’s geographic reach is principally Australasian, while its flagship event attracts participation from beyond the region.
